This aggressive trail/all mountain fork from Marzocchi has more adjustments than Michael Jackson has made to his face. As you can see from the specs. above travel is adjustable from 125mm to 165mm. This is achieved via the ATA adjuster that has two air chambers to simulate the compression curve of a coil spring, add to this the TST adjuster and you would think you have the perfect feeling air fork. In reality I could not get the air pressures set so that the fork would be supple over the small bumps, yet firm enough to handle the big hits. You end up with no choice but to sacrifice the small bump absorption to prevent harsh bottoming out. This was a huge disappointment, especially coming from a set of old Z1 bombers which really were buttery smooth and had both good small and big hit characteristics.
The fork uses a lot of high end materials and is finished to a high standard, but reliability has proven a bit of an issue. They have the habit of ‘winding ‘down their travel on steep technical descents quicker than Jody Marsh’s knickers at a hen party, and on more than one occasion lost several pounds of pressure from the ATA cartridge. The fork does however feel fairly stiff and track reasonably well, although not in the same league as Fox 36’s. On a plus side I found the 20mm ‘quick release’ to be very easy to use and reliable and the weight of the fork is very reasonable.
Bottom line, there are cheaper, smoother, better tracking forks out there. The only time I found the travel adjust useful was when these forks got relegated from my main 6” bike to an old hard tail.
