I'm up for dropping dorment accounts on a regular basis, people join to copy the GPS routes and don't post or ride with us. Not a problem! but delete them after a month of no activity.

Grant, did your insurance cover the bikes and wil you be back with us in the near future?

I think the concern is people have been followed but possibly as a result of meeting places etc been viewed on the website, I am not 100% sure. I think the vetting process is just invite somebody who emails them for a ride (if nobody knows the person and most riders know each other from friends of friends etc) on a ride and just try and suss the person out, no hard Questioning or interigration.

I know you guys made me all very welcome on my first ride.

If its already been discussed then fair enough, it was just a suggestion.

Grant,

These are all valid points and we have discussed this option before around other issues, the forum can be password protected to stop non members from viewing it. Though if you have a little bit of IT skill and what to rear the Cheesy riders forum then you can, so it is not that secure. All so how do they vet who can join and who cant ? We know most of the guys we ride with but none of us had ridden with you before so would we have let you join ? It’s a tough line…..

But as there is no address data on our site then it would be hard to find where anyone lives that way. You have to remember it is just as easy for you to be followed home after a ride when your bike is on full show on the back (or top) of your car. All so people notice when Bikes are being cleaned even in back gardens.

I am open to any suggestions to help improve the site/club/riders security and this would be a group decision to what we want to do. I personally don’t think an closed forum is going to stop people having the bikes stolen. Has it stopped bikes being stolen form the Cheesy Riders ?

What do others think ?
If at first you dont succeed, spend 6 hrs in casualty, then try again !!!

Hi Chaps, your thoughts, Lee what do you think.

I know a few of the Cheesy riders club members, I mentioned about my garage brake in, and they mentioned a few members have been unfortanate enough to have had bikes stolen as well. Also that they have had alot of spaming on there website recently, They they think thieves have been viewing the website. They as we do they discuss thier bikes. hobbies. upgrades. trips away who's away at certain weekends and cant make a ride away etc.

They have now removed any dormant members that do not contribute to discusions, only logged in members can view there website. Also new menbers have to apply and join them for a ride so they can be sussed out and gently assessed to see if they fit in.

Lee do you think this is the route to go down or something similar to help protect our much loved bikes which we all work very hard to buy.
