Morning,

So after all your talk yesterday about wiper seal on the Fox forks I felt the pressure to clean mine. I have to admit I have never cleaned the seal before though have meant to on many occasions. Forks are 2 years old and have been ridden a LOT so are well over the recommended time from Fox. So was expecting them to be very bad and full of grit and grime. But when I removed them they were white, clean, and sticky.

So am I just very very lucky or is the FOX recommendations ( I think is every 15hrs of riding )well over the top ?
If at first you dont succeed, spend 6 hrs in casualty, then try again !!!

Did you change the fork oil as well? Was it clean? I am doing a full service on Tim's this week. I think 25 hours is OTT but every 3-4 months cant hurt for 15 mins work.

I think quarterly is about right, my have been done twice since 2010 and both times the wiper seals were really quite dirty and definetly needed replacing.

Seems as though you've been quite lucky or do something that we don't, how do you clean your bike? I use a hose (not pressure washer) and try to take care to avoid directly blasting the seals but maybe some dirty water is still getting in there???
There had better be some downhill after this climb...

Whatever you do just don't do it this way. It's just STUPID and risks scratching the forks.
