The Yer Tiz Trail in neighbouring Leigh Woods was completed in late December 2011 and is a ‘moderate’ Blue grade narrow and engaging trail weaving it’s way through the woodland. The trail features berms(banked corners) rollers (bumps) and drops and climbs, requiring a mountain bike but suitable for relative novices to off-road cycling. Expect to meet other people enjoying the woods, including walkers, dog walkers and children. It has turned out to be a 2 mile long blue graded trail with a couple of red graded ‘options’ along the way.
At just 2 miles you’ll probably want to ride it a good few times to get a decent workout, but you also have Ashton Court on the other side of the road to ride too. The Red optoins trails that split off the main trail for 0.1km each. So can be missed is needed. They are short and fun to try if the feeling takes you. Skills Loop is graded ‘moderate’ Blue along its main route and includes features such as small drops, rock gardens and rollers to progress your riding ability. Along the loop you can divert onto more difficult features once you are confident. Develop your riding by building up to riding new features once you are ready. Leigh Woods is owned by the Forestry Commission and the National Trust. Facilities on site are limited, but you can find out more about the site from those organisation’s websites.
