So brought a set of XTR M960 Hubs from ebay, thought at one point I was had and it was all a scam. But on Friday a set of new looking hubs arrived at my door. The are very clean and new looking even though that are not

So now need to try and remember my wheel buildig skills as it has been a few years since I did my last.

So as you all know I have a Maverick speedball that I sometimes use, but it had problems when it was fully compressed. i.e. it moved around laterally (moved from side to side and even turned fully around when I was half way down the Mega and was not fun trying to sit on it facing the wrong way). So was thinking of which one of the new range of seat post to buy to replace it with. So I do not really use it that much so was not keen to spend a load of money on anything to flashy.

Anyhow as you well know I have a engineering background so thought I should investigate what was wrong with the post I had first. So on taking it apart I found that the Speedball has a slot in the main tube and the inner tube slides up and down it, this is the only thing that stops it from spinning around. There is a small keyway in the post and a small key on the inner post. The key on the key way has become worn on the edges so spins around under pressure. So I measured the inner size and worked out that the keys was worn around 2mm. So cut some shim I had and packed it out and what happened !!!

Well a perfectly working seat post that will last one more season. I have looked online and you can buy replace meant key and plastic packing washer for $25. not cheap but when my fix is no longer any good then I can try and new key. At least not as expensive as a new post.

Now just need look at the newer handlebar lever as mine is not as nice as the latest up to date ones.

Just thought I would share this will you all to show that not is all lost when things do not work.

On Sunday afternoon I was a bit of a sl*g and went riding with some different people. We went to the Quantocks and did a bit of down hilling.

5 of us went (George my brother’s mate, his missus, daughter and daughter’s boyfriend and me) to a place called Triscombe. There were loads of downhill runs and best of all George has a van and when his daughter had had enough she ran a bit of an uplift service.

Anyway the down hill seemed much more demanding, both technical and steeper than at Churchill, although being wet made it more so.

Near the bottom of the first run I took a bit of a tumble, hitting my thigh, chest, arm and wrist. Most of the pain went within 5 minutes or so, but my wrist is still hurting and is a bit swollen, my chest is killing me and my thigh is now feeling like a bit of a dead leg Still I didn’t let this stop me on the day (just slowed down a bit as holding on was a bit painful).

I think it would be well worth the trip, as there are loads of jumps, all with ride arounds, some pretty steep stuff for Lee and a nice little rock garden section (again with ride arounds).

It is all ridable on the trail bikes, although the DH rigs would be better and the ups are mainly fire road, so again can be ridden on a trail bike.

The only problem is I’m not sure how we got there, I will find this out, because as I said it would be well worth it, and apparently it is a good spot to go for an xc ride as well.

As the trails are becoming more and more muddy I think it is about time to look further a feild at where we can ride. Not just on and evening but also on a Sunday.

So I would like 2 new trails from each of you, 1 that we can ride on an evening and the second should be something we can ride on a sunday.

So go forth and find new trails !!!!
